Very Good Purchase.

I bought this item to replace another HP Drive on my HP desktop PC.
The one I replaced. Well, Put it this way . The old one worked like an old 'Farm Horse.'
I started using it about two weeks ago. So far it's working excellent. I sometimes copy or created ten DVDs and CDs per day.
It's 'PLUG & PLAY. I installed and had it running in about fifteen minutes.
One thing though. If you don't plan to upgrade the 'NERO BASIC SOFTWARE'
that came with. Don't download it. It slows you PC to about ZERO performance.

Excellent choice
Pros: Size, Dependability, Features, ease of installation, price
As a retired mainframe programmer, I have worn out many cd/dvd writers over the years. I chose the HP dvd1140 because of my previous success with HP burners.
This dvd1140 device was very easy to install, WindowsXP immediately recognized the unit, and completion of the installation was a snap.
My main computer already has NeroSmartStart on it, so I didn't install the bundled NeroEssentials4 software. I also have a thermal disc printer so haven't tried the LightScribe feature yet.
But I have successfully burned both cd and dvd discs containing data, music, and digital photographs.
After burning dozens of discs, I haven't experienced a single failure. I highly recommend this HP dvd1140.
