It is very confusing for someone who never had a fax machine to set up. Think it requires little more detail in setting header. experianced user would be OK. Test Fax to HP had a few problems but it was me not setting up properly. If you never had a fax you may need someone to help. I am an older man that requires help with this tech stuff and not afraid to admit it. After helper set it up for me it faxes OK and recieved OK. It is a flimsy unit I believe only good for home use with occasional faxing and recieving. If you do fax often check the better machines. As a starter it is OK. Been using it for a month now and after setup seems to run as intended

GOOD PURCHASE
I ALSO BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT FORM OFFICE MAX IT WORKS GREAT AND IT WAS A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. I REALLY NEEDED A FAX MACHINE SO OFFICE MAX WAS THE ONLY PLACE I WOULD BUY THE FAX MACHINE. I LOVE SHOPPING AT OFFICE MAX. GREAT DEALS ON THE STUFF I AM LOOKING FOR AND IT IS GREAT QUALITY.

640 hp fax
the only major problem with this machine is that there was not a paper catcher-as the document go thru the machine, i was required to catch each one so they did not end upon the floor. otherwise, this machine seems to work as designed.

Best bang for your buck. It's compact, pretty fast, very user-friendly. The thing I love the most about this fax machine is the ink cartridge-NO MORE FAX FILM!! You only use what's needed.

Poor
I used HP 620 for personel usage. In the 18 months I had the machine, I faxed less than75 pages. Now I receive an error message stating that there is a paper jam. I followed the 2 suggestions proposed by HP to no avail. I can not copy nor fax. Failure of a machine with less than 75 pages of usage is not acceptible.

One feature missing
I realized after the fact that this fax does not come with a catch rack for incoming faxes. I had to put a piece of cardboard underneath the machine for incoming faxes so that they wouldn't "float" to the floor.
Other then that it works great for the the money and I am quite pleased.

Incompatibility issue
Overall this stand alone fax has adequate features for home office use. However, after spending 3 hours with tech support I was told it is NOT compatible with digital answering machines, which rendered it useless for my purposes. Set up was fairly simple and the scanning process was quick. I was greatly disappointed not to find any reference to the incompatibility issue in the manual, and very frustrated to have spent 3 hours with tech support before being told this as well. If you don't need it with a answering machine, it would be a great machine.

excellent for the price
I needed a basic FAX machine that is easy to use and dependable. So far, so good. It was easy to set up and has been easy to use. The price was good too.

HP Fax 640
I was using an on-line fax service to send and receive faxes to/from my clients. Unfortunately, for the monthly fee, they only allow 100 "sent" faxes and 200 "received" faxes. After using your allotted amount for the month, you are charged per sheet of fax that comes in or goes out. In my business, faxes are routine, and I can easily have several hundred pages coming in or going out during the month. I always went over my allowed pages and ended up paying a lot of money to them by the end of the month. Trying to stay cost effective, I decided to go with a standard desk fax machine from HP - and I'm glad I made the switch. Not only am I saving a ton of money, but this fax machine is simple to use and has many features that make my job easier such as speed dial, redial, and caller ID. Better yet, it's not only a fax machine, but a copy machine as well. It's small and fits nicely on my desk, saving travel time by walking back and forth to the old fax machine. Gotta love this inexpensive and easy to use fax!
