This was a replacement for a 2140 that stopped working. It was obviously cheaper to buy another than to try to fix it. Unfortunately, the 2140s were discontinued, and this 2240 did not use the same toner cartridge (planned obsolescence?). My CD did not automatically load up the software, and I had to spend a lot of time playing with it. Otherwise, it's been working pretty well. There were no instructions on how to use less toner, so I'll have to find that out.
Pros: Easy to Use, Meets Expectations, surface rt compatible
I just wanted to write a quick review to let everyone know that if you do have a WINDOWS SURFACE RT this printer is compatible! The printer is NOT wireless so you have to use the USB port! But I know how hard it is to find a compatible printer. Hook up the printer to another computer/laptop NOT the surface and Google WINDOWS SURFACE RT PRINTER COMPATIBILITY LIST, search Brother SL-2240 when it comes up click on it and then download the FIRMWARE UPDATE (again using another computer NOT surface) Make sure the printer is on and connected to "another computer" after the download is over remove the USB and plug it into the SURFACE and it works! This is a really nice inexpensive laser printer and again it is compatible! YAY! Good luck!
I've decided to change from a jet ink to laser due to quality, speed and cost. I was impress with Brother laser printer and over all ease of use. The only thing I wish I did differently was purchase the all in one model instead. Yes.. recommend it to other. Purchase at OfficeMax for $20 lesser than purchase at Walmart.
This printer repaced a 8 year old Brothers Laser. It is fantastic, especially for the price. It powers on fast and prints even faster. You should have no reservations in purchasing this for fast mono color copies.
