It was a toss up between the TI-84 Silver edition and the TI Nspire CX, but after reading reviews I realized that the technology in the 84 is a decade older than the Nspire. They still make the 84 because so many are used to the way that worked, that there is still a demand. So if this is your first graphic calculator (it was for my son), then this is a great buy. It was easy to use, and when my son found the cursor, he said "wow this is just like a computer!" it is a lot more natural for those who use a computer for sure.
I am a college student and purchased this calculator because my old TI 84 broke and I needed a graphing calculator with my major. I am taking classes like chem, bio, physics, and calc. This was not the calculator for me at least. Perhaps it is because I am so used to the norm of an old calculator but none of the old formulas and equations I would do would carry over. It is definitely complicated and I ended up just purchasing another TI 84 because I was so disappointed with it.
The abilities of this calculator seem limitless. It doesn't come with much in the way of documentation, but there are lots of instructional videos on YouTube, many of them produced by ti education. A very worthwhile purchase.
