Balanced Sound Reproduction with Noise Isolation
Pros: accessories - quality pouch several earbud covers, excellent noise isolation = lower volume levels, top warranty service
Please read my experience with these because there are some important features you should always consider with headphones and ear buds.
I use these in a noisy environment, with high powered vacs, steam cleaners and power tools running constantly and they do an exceptional job in isolating noise. This is important because if you have too much noise coming in, your natural tendency is to turn up the music louder which will damage your ears. I am able to listen to my music at a normal volume where others cannot hear it leaking from my ears.
To accomplish this, you have to insert these properly. It takes a few tries to get it just right, but once you figure it out your ears will thank you. Insert them and then twist them into place to seal the ear. The soft pliable rubber shaped covers are comfortable, unlike many other manufacturers.
You can control volume, pause, back and forward easily with the cord controller. Additionally, the microphone for use with your phone is also very good. Many people have told me there is little difference between listening to me on the phone vs. using the headphones/mic of these Etymotics.
So, do they sound good? Yes. They provide exceptional balance across lows, mids and highs. If you are looking for bass heavy earbuds, these are not for you. If you want to hear everything being produced, these are great.
The cost is higher than most consumers want to pay... but seriously consider if it is worth the money to prevent your ears from future damage.
The construction quality will also make up for constantly replacing lower end earbuds. Sure, Skullcandy will tell you that you get a one year warranty, but if you've ever had to get service, you know it is worthless. Etymotic is a solid reputable company known for providing exceptional service.
