Decent machine with Network problems
Pros: Meets Expectations
Cons: Set up, does not always appear on network
This color laser printer prints a nice color copy when you can get it working. It took me about four hours, plus three calls to costumer service to get it out of the box, set-up and connected to my Wifi network.
I still have not been able to print from it without trouble though. If the printer is in sleep or Deep Sleep, then it does not appear on as a printer on the network. I have figured out a work around, which requires me to turn-off, then turn-on the printer...which is really a pain. The included printed driver disks were outdated for my Mac OSX operating system and the printer drivers from the Brother website never worked on my Mac so I had to connect the printer with Brother's IP printing, which could be why the printer is not recognized on the network in sleep mode. The Brother customer service folks were able to figure out the IP printing quickly once I actually got them on the phone. My two earlier attempts to call Brother customer service ended with me being hung-up on after waiting through their recordings and music.
The final printing is nice. It looks like a high-end ink jet printing. The colors are somewhat soft or lighter than I'd hoped for, but not really something to complain about.
If you have NO patience, then avoid this machine. It might work much better if you plan to connect it directly to your computer or if you are using a Windows PC, but not easily connected to a current Mac OSX.

Highly Recommended
Pros: Easy to Use, Meets Expectations, Features
I've owned inkjet printers for years... and I've disliked everyone of them. Constantly replacing the ink all the time is a hassle, never connects to the WifFi network properly, constantly had to reboot the machine. In contrast to that experience the Brother HL3170 is best printer since sliced ham. I LOVE THIS PRINTER. Yes its more expensive. Yes the ink cartridges are expensive... but this thing just WORKS! It prints fast and reliably. I no longer want to put a bat to my printer! My blood pressure has lowered. Oh... its also very efficient with ink too. Buy a Brother Inkjet. Its the smart thing to do.

The best printer
Pros: Easy to Use, Meets Expectations, Features
This printer has been great since day one. I highly recommend this printer looking for a fast, reliable, and easy to use printer. Wi-Fi was also is to hook up and use.

Great printer but....
Pros: Easy to Use, Meets Expectations, Features
Cons: toner has strong odor
Easy to install, the Brother's website is very helpful and up-to-date, and the printer works great, but the toner smell is heavy, especially in an enclosed area. Hope the smell diminishes over time.
